I have immersed myself in all things coffee this week.
I’ve devoured Consumer Reports’ material around coffee makers. I’ve discovered the difference between Arabica and Robusta. I spent two hours the other day learning about burr vs blade grinders. And now that I’m a coffee drinker, I’ve started searching for “my mug.” In fact, I’d say 95% of my sentences this week revolved around coffee.
Katie, of course, bears the brunt of my new-found obsession. The other day, Katie interrupted my monologue on the history of the coffee bean in Ethiopia and said: “Boy. When you do something, you really do it, don’t you?”
Of course. Did you expect anything else? Actually…
“Evan, I honestly didn’t think you’d go through with it,” she said. Really? My own wife doubted me? Apparently. Quite honestly, she’s a bit fed up with my coffee talk. Plus, I’ve now taken over “her thing.” Katie was queen of the coffee world in the Michner household…up until December 1st, 2009.
I am the King of Coffee!

Reasons for not drinking coffee:
- It tastes like hot bark
- Coffee drinkers whine too much about being addicted to coffee
- It’s expensive
- A Diet Coke after 2pm keeps me up for days.
Reasons to start drinking coffee:
- I want to be cool
- I want to whine about being addicted to coffee
- The gadgets are endless.
So there you have it. Ladies and gentlemen, you heard it here first: I’m committed to drinking coffee. I want to join the masses at Starbucks. I want to know about the hip coffee shops around town. I want to be a part of society. I want to spend hours researching the differences between the brands, blends, and beans.
Maybe it’s the “cold” weather. Or maybe I just wonder what my morning workouts would look like after I down some coffee. Regardless, I’m giving it a go.
I start tomorrow morning.

So it may be time to give the Michner brand a refresh. Given that we’re almost a full year and a half into marriage, are we still newlyweds?
Perhaps themichners.com becomes the hub of all online marriage advice, given that we’re experts. Or maybe it’s an advice column on being awesome.
Not sure. But I wanted to give our loyal readers the head’s up that we may give themichners.com a facelift soon…
But rest assured, you’ll still get your daily allowance of pictures, hilarious stories, and all-around awesomeness.
To be continued…

Wow. It seems like we’ve been busier than normal around here. Or is that simply an excuse, since it looks like most of my our posts lately have been A) Extremely short and B) Extremely infrequent? Regardless, here we go…
So going back to May of 2008: Kate’s folks rented a lake house out on Lake Austin for about a week last summer before our wedding. It was an absolute blast!
They came back a few weeks ago and we relived the whole thing!
We had a few less people, but we tried to make up for it…Still did some serious lake jumping, sitting around, grilling, etc. Plus we were graciously given a few days of sun (smashed between crazy rain).
Enjoy the pics!

We’re leaving bright and early tomorrow morning (5:30am!) to spend the weekend with Mike, Heather and our beautiful baby niece, Grace! We can’t wait. It’s going to be a blast hanging with them; plus, we’ve finally got college football on TV! The weather should be great too. Frankly, when it gets to the point where you’re saying, “Look honey, it’s only supposed to be 95 tomorrow!” you need a break from the heat.
We’ll post some pics when we get back!

Sitting in the shop right now listening to our guy rattle off thousands of dollars’ worth of stuff that the ‘Cruiser needs! Ouch.

Is the flame still burning? Am I still as passionate about getting the Beast running smoothly?
YES. But I am officially accepting sponsors, donations, and monetary gifts now…

The ‘Cruiser “overhaul” has begun!!
It’s completely vaccuumed out and we doused the interior in Febreeze the other day–so the inside isn’t too bad now! Basically, I’ve done everything I can do without knowing anything about fixing cars, or putting cash into the Beast.
But this evening, I decided it was time to roll up my sleeves and get some truck dirt on me–you know, like a real man.
So I decided to try to tackle the back door. Ever since Cory bought it, he’s told me that the back has been broken. Meaning, the top (the back window piece) will open, but the bottom tailgate piece won’t drop down.
So I pulled out all the tools that I owned. I put on my ‘Cruiser clothes. Then, I stared at the Beast. It scowled at me. I shook my fist! It simply snarled in disgust. I flexed my biceps! It growled.
It was Man versus Beast. And my loyal readers, let me tell you–I was going to tame this Beast.
So I ask you: After 45 minutes, who prevailed?
